“Israel Not Rejected” Romans 11:1-36
“16 The Lord called your name, “Green Olive Tree, Lovely and of Good Fruit.” With the noise of a great tumult He has kindled fire on it, And its branches are broken. 17 For the Lord of hosts, who planted you, has pronounced doom against you for the evil of the house of Israel AND of the house of Judah, which they have done against themselves in provoking Me to anger in offering incense to Baal.” — Jeremiah 11:16–17 (NKJV)
Paul, in Romans 11 is talking to the Church and using the Old Testament Olive Tree allegory to let the church know that they are not “The Olive Tree”. They are merely branches that are grafted in.
Paul uses this metaphor to show continuity between Israel and the Church, with Israel as the original, cultivated olive tree.
